When: June 27 - July 1 and July 4 - July 8; Open daily 11:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.; evening concerts on selected nights begin at 6:00 p.m.

What: The Smithsonian Folklife Festival is an international exposition of living cultural heritage, annually produced on the National Mall by the Smithsonian's Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. The largest annual event in the U.S. capital, the Folklife Festival includes daily and evening music and dance performances, crafts and cooking demonstrations, storytelling and discussions of cultural issues. The themes of the 2012 program will be: Campus and Community; Citified: Arts and Creativity East of the Anacostia River and Creativity and Crisis: Unfolding The AIDS Memorial Quilt.
