Fairfax County plots to expand Capital Bikeshare along I-66 trail
Fairfax County has 94 existing stations, and riders took more than 40,000 trips in 2025. The county is already planning to add 27 new ones this year in the areas of Annandale, Bailey’s Crossroads, Seven Corners, Mount Vernon and Belle View.

Route 1 BRT, Elden Street upgrades among transportation projects vying for regional funds
As authorized last fall by the Board of Supervisors, the county is seeking $463 million from the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA) for its planned “The One” bus rapid transit (BRT) system, which would serve nine stations along a 7.4-mile stretch of Richmond Highway, also known as Route 1, from Huntington to Fort Belvoir.

Fairfax County plan would add up to 17 Capital Bikeshare stations along I-66
The Fairfax County Department of Transportation held a virtual public meeting on Wednesday night to discuss the potential additions. If approved, the new stations would extend the regional bikeshare network in an area that runs alongside I-66, including Providence, Braddock and Springfield Districts.

FTA designates $20.4B for public transit in FY26
Formula grant programs allocate funding to states, urbanized areas and transit agencies based on formulas set by Congress, while the state governments and urbanized areas decide how much funding is provided to specific transit agencies and providers, said FTA officials in a press release.
