Crossfit Adaptation

Crossfit Adaptation owner Amy Gay has created a neighborhood gym for many. Located along Four Mile Run Drive and close to Barcroft Park, it is an exercise facility that takes a different approach to the typical gymnasium. It’s a large, unassuming industrial space where the back garage door lets in lots of natural light. Unlike other polished gyms with machines, Amy says here you make use of your body as a machine. If you live in the area, you can use the Four Mile Run trail as a warmup on your way to the gym. Amy says she encourages members to do this and even wraps in workouts using Barcroft Park facilities as portion for some routines. If you are new to crossfit, the gym offers a free class on the first Saturday of the month. There’s even a program for children called Crossfit Kids. There’s also a teen program that meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:30 p.m.

With 10 coaches and a varied program, you won’t get tired of the workouts. They even have an annual “tire flip” competition in the fall. Amy and her staff ensure you get a session that works your body using simple machinery. Choose a red eye 5:30 a.m. workout or choose later ones throughout the day. While you’ll find the typical pull up bars and barbells — challenge yourself with rope climbs, handstand walks, battle rope and tractor tires. Or drive golf balls in the winter with your new-improved strength! If you’re really feeling it, complete one of the weekly Hero WODs (that’s Workout of the Day). These are usually longer and more challenging to honor our fallen soldiers. With average class attendance of 12-13, it’s the perfect size to make friends and receive personalized coaching on your form.

Many customers come by bike or walk due to its connectivity with Four Mile Run trail. Of the 11 employees, several also bike or walk to work. Even Amy, who lives nearby, can walk to work from nearby Shirlington. ART 72 and 77 will drop you off in front of Crossfit Adaptation as does Metrobus A71. Walk, bike or even use Capital Bikeshare along Four Mile Run trail to get there.

Visit this woman-owned business soon and get working on those health goals! Or as Amy says, “do something today you will be proud of tomorrow.”
