Happy Grooming

Ann Tang, Owner

Collage of Happy Grooming

Once you open the main door and unlatch a locked half door immediately behind it, with hair on the floor and the smell of shampoo, it appears you’ve entered a beauty salon. That’s not too far from the truth — it’s a grooming business for dogs called Happy Grooming. The name makes sense once the owner, Ann Tang, greets you with a smile. Originally from Thailand, Ann and her sister Mary, moved to the area in 2009. Given her love for animals, Mary went to grooming school and decided to open a dog grooming business along Langston Boulevard. Ann quickly left her retail job and joined her sister to work alongside her at Happy Grooming. As a true local business and with no other competition at the time, they quickly became a mainstay. They’ve even had their brush with fame with customers like local meteorologist Steve Rudin of Channel 7 and Ryan Zimmerman, who would bring in their dogs regularly. Besides grooming, which includes a bath and haircut, Happy Grooming offers nail trimming, teeth brushing and will even dress their client up with a bow or bandana. Ann says, “with a fresh cut, we’re able to see any skin issues and we let the owner know so they can follow up with a vet visit. And the owner’s experience? “They love the smell of their clean dog because of the shampoo we use,” says Ann. In the back, dogs are bathed and the first rough cut happens. Then they come up front to a table where the groomer finishes out the final details leaving each dog with a fresh cut, clean paws and finely groomed.

There are four full-time and two part-time employees — four of them take the bus to work. Located in a small strip mall, parking can be difficult, so taking public transit is a great option to get there. Several customers come walking from the neighborhood and there are two customers that bike there with their dogs in a backpack! Ann also makes it easy for pickup/drop off with front door service to eliminate hassle of searching for a parking spot. So, if you’re looking for a friendly, locally owned business to give your dog a fresh cut and shampoo, come visit Happy Grooming soon!
