Millie's Tailoring & Dry Cleaning
John Cha, Owner

Millie’s Tailoring & Dry Cleaning is a longtime mainstay along North Glebe Road and has been around since the 1970s, according to the owner. With no website or social media platforms, owner John Cha does just fine maintaining a consistent clientele that returns again and again. Reputation stemming from quality alterations and cleaning brings customers back. John’s mother worked 15 years as a seamstress for the original owners and when it came time for them to retire, she bought the business. John took over and keeps a staff of six employees.
One of the unique things about Millie’s is the alteration department on the second floor. Cha invested in fitting rooms with space to allow for wedding gowns, prom and homecoming attire to be worn and fitted. Alterations make up almost 40% of the business while the rest is dry cleaning. Millie’s can accommodate a simple pants hem all the way up to wedding dress alterations. Customers come from all over the metropolitan area. Cha sees clients from nearby Washington Golf & Country Club and Marymount University to attorneys and local business owners. It’s not often a business can greet customers by first name “and” several generations of the same family later become customers. Cha has watched children grow up and then some become employees while home for summer vacation.
Cha comes from nearby Falls Church and finds it easy to get to work given its convenient location on Glebe Road near Langston Boulevard. With only six parking spots, it’s a good idea to use public transit. He says some customers come by bicycle noting that when traffic is bad, it’s nice having the infrastructure to support alternative ways to get there. Four ART buses (51, 52, 55 and 72) serve this location plus one Metrobus (A70) with a Capital Bikeshare station nearby.
