Pastries by Randolph has become a local favorite for residents seeking authentic European-style treats and a welcoming neighborhood atmosphere. Originally opened in 1988, the bakery has built a long-standing reputation for quality pastries, cakes, and desserts gaining a loyal customer base along the way.

Manager Daniel Flatt describes the shop as a place known for “French pastries with our best seller being mousse cake.” Besides the mousse cakes, customers can find éclairs, napoleons, cheesecake pastries, fruit-filled pastries, and the bakery’s popular Berliner — a fried dough pastry filled with strawberry marmalade. White and dark chocolate mousse cakes remain especially popular among regular customers.

The pastry shop also brings an international touch to Arlington’s food scene. French tunes waft overhead and fresh coffee is sourced through the owner’s connections in Switzerland, giving visitors another reason to stop in for a quiet breakfast or afternoon treat. Daniel mentions the bakery has done well through word of mouth and repeat customers. “A lot of things we’re grateful for because the community is awesome,” he said, noting that orders often come from customers who discovered the bakery through friends and neighbors. Others come from as far away as Springfield and Fredericksburg.

What makes this bakery stand out is how easy it is to reach without needing a car. The bakery is located within Lee Heights Shops, making it easy for customers to combine errands or enjoy a weekend bike ride or walk through the neighborhood to get to the shops.

Of their 30 employees, about a third of them use public transportation to get to work. Most of them walk or bike to work and a few take the bus. There are others who carpool together to work. Whether on foot, by bus or bike — make your way to this urban village and stop in at Pastries by Randolph to satisfy your sweet tooth.
